I got the call today.
At exactly 0937 hrs I got a call asking for someone who left a note on a certain car. It was the owner of the Odessey that I scratched on Saturday! I was so surprised that the first thing he said to me was to actually thank me for leaving the receipt with all my particulars behind! I was so terribly shocked I tell you, he said this even before I had the chance to apologise to him for all the damage that I inflicted on his car. He went on to even enquire on whether I was okay, and if my car was badly damaged. To say I was shocked after all these statements would be a major understatement. Just when I found my voice to explain what happened, and then offer to pay for all his damages, he actually waved it away and told me that it's okay.
His 'reason' was just, "Aiyah, don't worry about that, my car has so many scratches already. I'm just very thankful that you owned up to your mistake. Be careful next time okay?"
I realised I didn't catch his name after I hung up, but I still feel quite bad. I really can't remember what good I've done to receive so much kindness and forgiveness in return. As in really, even if he told me the damages was 10k, I would have gladly paid for it. Somehow, I really feel as though I don't deserve this. Haiz.
Dad still hasn't consented to me paying for the family car's damages as well. Workshop estimates put it around the $500 range. I actually expected more to be honest.
Nice people really make you take a good hard look at yourself, then turn away with disgust when you see all that you lack. I'm quite sure I can never be the person that that man is.
